Jason Mraz...my gosh, what to say. I know, I'm a fan. A huge fan. I find his lyrics absolutely engaging and thoughtful but easily relatable and not overworked. We all know Jason from his overplayed but classic "The Remedy(I Won't Worry)" that was released on his album "Waiting for my rocket to come" in 2002. Don't deny it, you've heard it. IIIII I III WONT WORRY MY LIFE AWAYY!! Its catchy. Look it up.
Jason's previous albums were hit or miss. "Mr. A-Z" was alrite. It had "Geek in the Pink" and "Wordplay" which hit top charts for a week or two in 2004-5. "Selections for my friends" was personal and not interesting. "Sleeping to Dream" was slow and "10,000 motherfuckers" is not nearly as cool as the title percieves it to be. Then, it seemed he was going to be a one-hit-wonder that then retreated back to his adorondak house and we never heard from again. I'm glad he changed that.
Now, with Jason's new-ishly released "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things" he shows a new island-influenced sound that is appreciated greatly. As much as i love my "growing up in the early 2000's" pop, i'm glad he lost it. "Dynamo of Volition" is a good one. He touches on every subject possible in that song. He talks about the anticipation for the new Guns & Roses album, how his phone beeps because he missed it and somehow a squirell. Funny Stuff. Also using the phone call from a medical office used in "If it kills me" is genius. my personal favorite is the phone call of a friend of his in "Details in the Fabric." The exact quote "You're like an island of saneness in a sea or diarrhea." Hilarious. Then comes "Beautiful Mess." Its alrite. The rest of the album is upbeat and new-sounding but this one song has your classic ballad form. Jason Mraz + ballad = boring. BUT let us not forget MY personal song of 2008 summer: I'm Yours. What a SONG! My mom even prays to the writing of that song. Its beautiful, loving, and well-written. I approve.
But for Jason, I'm sure he will be making $250 from me for concert tickets next time he is in NY.

Let's start this off with a new one. Leona Lewis. Originally from Britain she was discovered by the show X-Factor of which she won. She was granted a 1 million pound contract to Simon Cowell's record label with Sony MG. Her first U.S. single "Bleeding Love" was originally written by Jesse McCartney, OneRepublic and Ryan Tedder. The song was originally for Jesse, but it was thrown to the cutting room floor for artistic purposes.

Now, I'm a fan of a woman who's got a strong voice and a strong range ( i.e. Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey(minus Glitter)) but Leona is not doing it for me. Her voice is strong, clear and very good but I've heard it before. Its nothing new. "Bleeding Love" and "Better in Time" are great songs, don't get me wrong. But it's old. I'm done hearing pop beats with big runs on each note at the end. You gotta good voice. gimmie something new!
